Re: Resolving Digitizer (Touchscreen) issues

I have a fairly old z22 that was working great until about 2 weeks ago when all of a sudden the touchscreen stopped working. I can turn it on and off and use the buttons to do some basic navigation, but nowhere on the touchscreen will respond. I've attempted a soft reboot as well as a hard reboot. The soft reboot did nothing. The hard reboot only got as far as the screen where I need to touch the center of the target, and the screen still will not respond.

I've taken very good care of the unit. There are no punctures, cracks or marks of any kind on the screen.

Any ideas what is wrong or how to correct the problem? I love the features of this Palm because I basically use it as an electronic datebook, address book, and notebook. I don't need something with more functionality.

Also, my husband gave me his m500 to use in place of my Palm, which from reading this forum, I've learned is actually a step down from the z22. It worked great the first time I did a Hot Sync with the cradle, but now, I cannot get it to Hot Sync again. Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks!

I'm thinking that your post is probably beyond what most users here have seen and done.

I suggest you refer your T3 to someone who knows what they're doing with the hardware:

 1. Chris Short on eBay (user "itsnothere")
 2. www.directfix.com
 3. www.usedpdaparts.com

For anyone interested in whether my T3 digitizer problem has been fixed, I have some good news. I contacted Chris Short via eBay, and he said I had probably over-extended the ribbon cable and he offered to fix it for a reasonable fee.

Because I would have to pay for postage of my T3 to the States and back as well, the exercise was going to be too expensive. So I had another look at the problem myself. This time I somehow happened to activate the Note Pad application in Landscape mode and, with a new blank Note, I opened and closed the T3 slider. I noticed a black track appear on the display about 2mm above the 'Done' button (Landscape orientation). This could only be caused by the ribbon cable behind the navigator panel.

I took the unit apart again and, under high magnification, saw that the ribbon cable behind the navigator panel was still not perfectly flat against the case. I reglued the cable, and this time made sure it was pushed as flat as I could make it.

On re-assembly the problem was no longer evident - PROBLEM SOLVED :smileyvery-happy:

Re: touchscreen problem

I'm having the same issues, even bought 2 cheap used ones. Removing film didn't fix the problem. One one used TE2, it was working but tapping was way off base. Entering calibration, got stuck in the calibration loop, which is where my original TE2 is stuck and why I bought spares in the first place. Any other known fixes? i also disconnected/reconnected the battery, and loosened 4 torx screws on back, solutions I read elsewhere online, but to no avail.

Re: Resolving Digitizer (Touchscreen) issues

Don's problem is the closest to mine, but his solution isn't working for me.

I have a Vx. The touchscreen seems to respond correctly, but when I synch it from Palm Desktop, it changes the digitizer so that it is no longer accurate.

I have tried setting the memo pad button to "preferences" or to "welcome" as Don suggests, but the sync overwrites that setting also!

I have change the HotSync settings to "no action" for essentially everything (including system) except the address book, hoping that will disable whatever is overwriting my button settings, but no luck!

Any ideas out there?

Re: Resolving Digitizer (Touchscreen) issues

I have been a Palm user for 15 years, starting with my first Palm IIIxe, which was the best of all of them, IMHO! I have owned a Tungsten e2 since 2007. It has since developed screen alignment issues, the power button is flaky, is has a wimpy power cord (why did they ever drop the cradle paradigm?) and the software sometimes has a mind of its own. I had to move my desktop software to my work PC when I bought a new Windows 7 laptop for personnal use. Now with my work moving off of XP I will have no more Palm desktop since PalmOne has 1) sold to HP and 2) do not support PDAs anymore. Palm software is not compatible with Windows 7 unless you are a master of kludge!

My wife and I have now successfully switched from Palm to iTouch 5 (the same as an iPhone 4, without the phone). It has iOS5 which supports Apple's new iCloud service. We love it!!! Make the switch now before its too late! Or, better yet, wait for the iPad 3 (or 2s, depending on what they call it) to make use of the Siri voice recognition software. I flat out don't trust smart phones and refuse to pay the exorbitant connection fees. The iTouch is wi-fi only, but other than not being able to utilize it fully while in the car, that is fine for what I need it for.

Re: Resolving Digitizer (Touchscreen) issues

Just an FWI twilson92, Win7 64bit drivers have been available since April of 2010 - simply perusing the Windows Hotsync section of this forum would have revealed this, precluding the requirement of being a "master of kludge" (whatever that is!)

I'm glad you're happy with your new device. I'm happy trying to help those who choose to keep Palm OS devices by providing solutions instead of solicitations to other platforms.

Re: Resolving Digitizer (Touchscreen) issues

And I'm one of presumably many Palm OS users who appreciate the help you have, and continue to, provide.

Bad news, I fear. I was just about to download the Win 7 64bit drivers from Aceeca's website, as part of finally being able to sync my T-3's with my Windows 7 64bit computer by following directions you provided 4/13/11 post, together with clarifications provided by others on the basis of their own experience with that methodology, when I discovered that the links to the drivers and the Aceeca drivers installation procedure no longer lead to a public download point. Instead, both arrive at an Aceeca page reading "The page you requested was not found".

The only possibility via their web site seemed to be to access their "developer software files", if the drivers are, in fact, available there, and which they offer as a free service if one registers for an account. Unfortunately, on their Buy Direct page, where one would presumably register for an account, I ran into: "Buy Direct at Aceeca.com Our eCommerce store is currently offline while undergoing an upgrade. Please contact us<http://aceeca.com/contact/aceeca/ail> about pricing and processing your order."

I've yet to contact them further re why access to the drivers has disappeared and whether they plan to provide access to the drivers again in the future.

I was wondering whether you know anything about the situation, and whether it's temporary, or (heaven forbid) permanent?

And can you fathom any other route to accessing the drivers?

Thank you,

Re: Resolving Digitizer (Touchscreen) issues

Acceca recently moved them to the support page here:

http://aceeca.com/support/downloads_product?id_workgroup=1&id=6

I have updated my original post to reflect this new location.

Now, back to discussing Digitizer issues!
